Niall O'Sullivan

high brow, low brow, none of that stuff in the middle

The Ocado van cruises down Dorchester Drive. Its tone of yellow flares all the more intensely with each streetlight it passes. This is the same spot where I sometimes stop to photograph cloud formations and sunsets. There’s hardly any traffic here, apart from the odd driving lesson. I stand right in the middle, letting go of the buggy’s handles for a moment, raise up the phone and thumb the virtual shutter button. I have collected gigabyte swathes of these images. Pictures that are as ephemeral as their subjects. Even now, I want to film the Ocado van with its garish hue flaring and dimming as it crawls down the road. I have no interest in the neatly stacked produce within or the nicely stoned employee behind the wheel. I just want to capture something about the motion and the light. There are businessmen in Japan that get plastered beneath trees that only flower for one night a year. If Ocado was spelt with a K it would sound Japanese.
